Peru - tomorrow we start walking to Macchu Picchu

Wow!  Australia has a new Prime Minister!  We read about that today (on internet news).  I guess there were some stirrings 6 days ago - but what a surprise!

This evening we met our guide and the group we are going on tour with.  We are the oldest - well John is!  My age was listed as 50 - so I changed it - that is still 34 days away.

The past two days have been in Peru - in Cusco.  It´s an amazingly preserved old city - it does have lots of modern things but many of the buildings have been maintained - some walls since Inca times.

The major festival for the year has been happening last night and today - a celebration of the sun God (Inti Raymi) and the winter solstice.  There are thousands of people here - foreigners and Peruvians.

We had an amazing breakfast at Jack´s this morning - run by an Australian who has lived here 10 years - she is originally from Qld but has been to Wagga!  Then we joined thousands of others and walked up a big hill - 2 km - to watch some of the festivities.

Tonight I ate alpaca and John had Peruvian duck.

We´re off on a big adventure tomorrow and looking forward to it.

June 23 - two thinkers - one is genuine, the other a copy! (in Buenos Aires)

June 24 - ancient city of Cusco, Peru
